"Grienermobile"- The Birth of a Greener Wiener

As suspected, Oscar Mayer's previous announcement of their deal to create a completely solar powered Wienermobile is tied into the newest launch of their VEGAN products in early May. Oscar Mayer is clearly trying to capitalize on emerging clientele who are focused on health and the environment. The Wienermobile will be a new type of hybrid, rather than the entirely solar powered vehicle originally rumored to be manufactured. It will rely almost entirely on solar energy, but will be supplemented with electricity.

"We are trying to create a more eco-friendly way to run our business." Company spokesman George Molchan said. "In the upcoming months we will be announcing several other initiatives aimed at a more sustainable existence while maintaining a superior product."

The Wienermobile or "Grienermobile," as it is being dubbed will also be fitted to accommodate the hydrogen powered engines that are soon to be in production. Once that technology has been perfected, the Grienermobile can just be updated rather than build a new one. The updated vehicle will cut greenhouse emissions by over 90 percent now, and once the hydrogen powered model is in place, the only bi product will be a small amount of water.

In 2008, Oscar Mayer made their first adaptation to inflated gas prices and a move towards a greener policies by downsizing the Wienermobile to a modified Mini Cooper. The change more than doubled the milage for the Wienermobile while still catching eyes as it drives by. The milage ought to double or triple again to  with the new vehicle depending on the actual specs upon manufacture.

Its not yet known who will be the spokesperson for the Grienermobile or the VEGAN line and if Michael Strahan will be involved again, but it is unlikely. Several celebrities and athletes who are both environmentally conscious and vegan are suspected of taking part. They include Woody Harrelson, Toby Maguire, Portia de Rossi, Natalie Portman and Russel Simmons as well as former Olympic standout Carl Lewis, and former boxing great Mike Tyson.
